Synplicity Boosts Quality of Results for Xilinx Devices in Latest FPGA Synthesis Software

Enhanced Synplify Software Provides a Dramatic Increase in Timing Performance and Area Reduction for Xilinx's Spartan-3 and Virtex-II Pro FPGAs

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 2003-- Synplicity Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNP), a leading supplier of software for the design and verification of semiconductors, and a member of the Xilinx AllianceEDA program, today announced it has made several quality of results (QoR) improvements to its Synplify(R) and Synplify Pro(R) FPGA synthesis software to provide increased performance and area reduction for Xilinx devices. With these algorithmic QoR enhancements, the latest versions of the Synplify software enable designers to increase the timing performance for their Virtex-II Pro(TM) devices by an average of nearly 10 percent compared with the previous version of the Synplify software. Additional enhancements to the software have been implemented especially for use in conjunction with Xilinx's recently announced Integrated Software Environment 6.1i (ISE).

Specific area optimizations made within the Synplify software target Xilinx's family of cost-efficient Spartan-3(TM) FPGAs. With these optimizations, designers can obtain significant area reduction in their devices often enabling them to use a smaller, less costly device, potentially saving tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in device costs.

"We constantly strive to lead the industry in providing the highest quality of results with our FPGA synthesis solutions while keeping pace with the demands of today's latest device architectures," said Jeff Garrison, director of marketing for FPGA products at Synplicity. "This latest version of the Synplify software has been tuned for use with Xilinx's ISE 6.1i software, Virtex-II Pro and Spartan-3 devices. We believe the Synplify product's unique ability to optimize for area after timing has been achieved enables our customers to save on device cost while quickly achieving aggressive timing requirements."

"Synplicity continues to deliver to our mutual customers FPGA synthesis products that offer best-in-class quality of results, runtime and productivity advantages," said Rich Sevcik, senior vice president of FPGA products at Xilinx Inc. "We believe customers using this latest version of Synplicity's Synplify software in combination with our ISE 6.1i software will see a significant improvement in performance and area utilization for our Virtex-II Pro and Spartan-3 FPGA families."

Pricing and Availability

The Synplify 7.3.3 and Synplify Pro 7.3.3 software are available now. Pricing for the Synplify software starts at $9,500 (U.S.) and pricing for Synplify Pro software starts at $20,000 (U.S.).
